Transport and transport related documents are essential for any cargo or freight move and having some understanding of them is critical.
Transport related and trade documents training content:
In this transport “Related or Trade documents” training, we will review and discuss more in detail the common documents which you may encounter when involved in the transport and logistics of traded goods but which are not directly “Transport documents”.*
We also introduce some key information related to the customs process and using as examples the import and export to and from the USA and EU, we demonstrate how to determine what documents may be needed.

The documents covered in this module include notably:
- The Invoice which provides information about the trading parties, the traded goods, their quantity, and cost
- The Packing List which describes the content of the consignment and accompanies the goods
- Key customs documents with examples of those used in EU and USA
- The Certificate of Origin and some of its variants used for various – often customs related – purposes
- The ATA Carnet used for temporary imports
- The Carnet TIR used for customs transit through third countries.
- The Dual-use items and End-use Certificate used for control of legally authorized items imports
- Waiver Certificates used to supervise traffic to some African countries
- SOLAS VGM (Weight Certificate) confirming container total weight
- Certificate of conformity – ensuring the goods meet specific (technical or safety) requirements
- Phytosanitary Certificate – guaranteeing safety of plant (wood) product, by inspections or specific treatment
- Wood Treatment Certificate – confirming the wood was treated
- Hazmat Documents (DGD,[M]SDS) – providing needed information in relation to the safety while handling dangerous goods
- Letter of Credit – guaranteeing payment to the seller if certain conditions are met
- Letter of Indemnity – used as a promise of financial compensation in case of a loss or damage

Following this transport related documents training, the student should be:
- aware of the most common non-transport documents used in transport logistics and their typical content.
- able to exchange in a credible manner with customers, logistics service providers, and other parties when talking about transport related documentation.
- able to identify when certain documents are required and who is responsible for providing them.
- familiar with the basis of the customs process and some related terms.
The total run time of this logistics training is approximately 2 hours.
User experience duration is expected to be around 3 hours but may vary due to interactive parts and reflection time.
A final exam is available and will help validate the acquired knowledge in this Incoterm training.
